BAKUN, Benguet August 20 – More than P1.6 million worth of assorted marijuana plants were successfully destroyed by combined police operatives and anti-narcotics agents during an 8-hour marijuana eradication operation in a 1,837-square meter plantation site in sitio Balisawsaw, Kayapa here from 9 am to 3 pm Thursday.
Inspector Joyce Ann Dayag, public information officer of the Benguet Provincial Police Office, said the destroyed illegal hemp was composed of 5,900 pieces of fully grown marijuana plants and 12,000 pieces of marijuana seedlings that were planted around the site.
The operating troops composed of elements from the Bakun Municipal Police ?Station, Benguet Provincial Public Safety Company, Benguet Provincial Police Office and Cordillera office of the Philippine be Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) also conducted a dialogue and symposium with the residents informing them of the serious negative effects of illegal drugs to the populace among others.
Earlier, members of the same operating forces were able to destroy over P11 million worth of marijuana planted in the area over the past several days of non-stop marijuana eradication operations.
Superintendent Cherry Fajardo, public information officer of the Police Regional Office (PRO) in the Cordillera, said law enforcers are relentless in the conduct of anti-illegal drug operations in order to reduce the supply of prohibited drugs that would help spare the youth from being exposed to the serious negative effects of using prohibited drugs in their development as responsible and dedicated citizens of the community.
