TINGLAYAN, Kalinga December 8 – More than P12.9 million worth of marijuana bricks that were allegedly abandoned by suspected marijuana cultivators were recovered and destroyed by combined police operatives and anti-narcotics agents during an anti-drug operation at Tulgao East, here, late Wednesday afternoon.
The 108 marijuana bricks which were placed in 5 sacks that were allegedly left behind by the still unidentified marijuana cultivators who fled from the area upon learning of the conduct of the marijuana eradication operation that will be conducted by the government operatives.
Earlier, authorities received a tip on the alleged presence of a marijuana plantation in the said area that prompted them to schedule a combined marijuana eradication operation to prevent the illegal hemp from being circulated inside and outside the province.
However, while en route to the reported marijuana plantation site, they discovered the 5 sacks containing a total of 108 marijuana bricks weighing more or less 108 kilograms with market price of P12.9 million.
The recovered contraband were immediately burned on site by the authorities while some of the marijuana were taken by the government operatives for evidentiary purposes.
Police and military intelligence personnel are conducting an investigation in the area for the possible identification of the marijuana cultivators who were able to harvest and pack the marijuana prior to the arrival of the operating troops.
