LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – The municipal government needs at least P150 million to rehabilitate and improve its municipal hall to meet the growing concerns of people seeking assistance from the different offices on a daily basis. We want to provide our people convenience when transacting business with the local government that is why we decided to pursue the project upon the recommendation of our technical personnel and other concerned stakeholders,” Mayor Salda stressed.
Mayor Romeo Salda said the local government initially appropriated some P29 million from the town’s budget this year to jumpstart the project that is expected to be completed in two years based on the studies done by concerned technical personnel.
The local chief executive explained that some P80 million is required to complete the rehabilitation of the main municipal building which will become a 4-storey structure while some P70 million is needed to improve the extension of the building towards the trading post area as a 3-storey structure with the booths remaining on the ground floor.
“We want to improve the state of the seat of government so that our offices can accommodate our rapidly increasing number of clients who regularly transact business with the local government. We want to provide our people convenience when doing business with the different offices of the local government,” Mayor Salda stressed.
Salda appealed to the public to bear with the inconvenience they will encounter while the rehabilitation and improvement of the municipal hall is on-going but the local government will try its best to minimize the inconvenience the project will cause to the transacting public.
He explained the rehabilitation and improvement of the municipal hall is part of the local government’s development plan to contribute to efforts of the government to improve the delivery of basic services to the people in the locality.
According to him, the local government will look for sources of funds to guarantee the completion of the project within the prescribed period for the municipality to have a better state of its seat of government.
Salda expressed confidence the rehabilitation and improvement of the main municipal building and its extension will be able to accommodate all the offices of the local government to allow people to complete their transaction within a reasonable time and still have the time to roam around the municipality and explore its various tourist destinations, especially for day visitors.
La Trinidad is the capital town of Benguet where the famous strawberries and cut flowers are produced by the thousands of farmers in the lucrative industry greatly contributing to the growth and development of the locality which aims to become the third city in the Cordillera once appropriate legislations will be enacted for the purpose considering it hurdled the requirements on income and population but is short of the 10,000 hectares minimum requirement for a first-class town to be converted to a component city.
