LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – The P190 million earmarked for the proposed development of the Wangal Sports Complex to continue the development of the sports facility as one of the most improved sports complex in the region will be bid out by the Department of Public Works and Highways–First Benguet Engineering District (DPWH-FBED) this month to allow the immediate prosecution of the programmed projects.
Benguet Caretaker Congressman and Anti-Crime and Terrorism through Community Involvement and Support (ACT-CIS) Party-list Rep. Eric Yap stated there was a slight deadly in the scheduled bidding of the projects lined up for the continuation of the development of the Wangal Sports Complex because of the 33-percent increase in the prices of steel that caused the agency to adjust the earlier programmed cost estimates.
Among the projects that will be implemented within the Wangal Sports Complex is the rubberized track oval compliant with international standards, the put up of bleachers, while P25 million will be used to continue the improvement of the closed gymnasium to convert it into a state-of-the-art indoor sports facility.
Congressman Yap stipulated that Benguet deserves to have a state-of-the-art sports complex for the province to have the capacity to independently host local, regional, national and international sports competitions to help place the town as one of the identified sports hubs outside the National Capital Region (NCR) and Central Luzon.
The continuous improvement and development of the Wangal Sports Complex is one of the standing commitments of Congressman Yap after he was convinced of the bright potential of the sports facility that will contribute in the ongoing efforts to place Benguet in the map of sports in the country.
According to him, it is important for the government to maximize the potentials of Wangal Sports Complex to become one of the premier sports facilities in the province to entice sports enthusiasts to hold their trainings and competitions in the province to help spur the local tourism industry, one of the major drivers of the economy.
With the projected completion of the project, Yap expressed optimism that Benguet will be able to host inter-regional sports competitions, the annual Palarong Pambansa, and possibly, international sports activities that can bring back the vibrance of the economy that had been heavily impacted by the prevailing implementation of the various levels of community quarantine to contain the speared of the dreaded Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).
He assured the concerned stakeholders he will personally look into the implementation of the programmed projects once the same will be awarded to the declared winning contractor to ensure the quality of the projects pursuant to the project specifications and standards.
Yap stipulated that projects that will not be completed in the Wangal Sports Complex will be augmented by the inclusion of the same in the annual budget of the government next year. By HENT
