TINGLAYAN, Kalinga– More than P23.4 million worth of marijuana plants were destroyed by combined police operatives and anti-narcotics agents during the conduct of a 5-day marijuana eradication campaign in the mountains of barangay Loccong, here, recently.
Police Co. Davy Vicente Limmong, Provincial Director of the Kalinga Provincial Police Office, disclosed that during the 5-day operation, joint operatives of Kalinga PPO and PDEA were able to find 3 marijuana plantation sites with 90,000 pieces of fully-grown marijuana plants and 2 other sites where they discovered 45,000 grams of dried marijuana leaves and stalks with Standard Drug Price (SDP) amounting P 23,400,000.00.
From site 1, with an estimated land area of 2,500 square meters, operatives uprooted 25,000 pieces of fully marijuana plants with standard market value of P 5,000,000.00; from site 2, with an estimated land area of 1,000 square meters, they uprooted 5,000 pieces of fully marijuana plants with standard market value of P 1,000,000.00; while from site 3, with an estimated land area of 5,000 square meters, 60,000 pieces of fully marijuana plants with standard market value of P 12,000,000.00 were uprooted.
Upon scouring the surrounding areas, operatives further discovered 2 other sites where they found a total of 45,000 grams of dried marijuana leaves and stalks with standard market value of P 5,400,000.00.
All discovered and uprooted marijuana plants were burned onsite by the operating troops. Further, investigation is ongoing to identify possible cultivators.
