KIBUNGAN Benguet – Governor Dr. Melchor Diclas and Kibungan Mayor Cesar Molitas on February 10, 2021, led the laying of capsule and ground-breaking ceremony of the Road Upgrading and Improvement of Halsema-Madaymen Provincial Road Phase III project in Madaymen, Kibungan, Benguet.
The 44.19-million-peso project is funded by the Department of the Local and Interior Government (DILG) through its Conditional Matching Grant to Provinces (CMGP) program.
Governor Diclas said the project will not only benefit the vegetable farmers and residents of Madaymen, but of the neighboring municipalities as well.
The project includes regrading and widening of the 1.1133km road, construction of retaining walls, construction of two-lane PCCP, and construction of drainage system among others. It is expected to be completed in September this year after 223 calendar days.
Kibungan is one of the two beneficiaries of the DILG’s CMGP program in Benguet for 2020 along with Kapangan for the Improvement and Upgrading of Lomon-Sagubo Provincial Road Phase II worth P34M.
For calendar year 2021, Benguet is one of the three recipients of the CMGP program in the Cordillera region aside from Apayao and Mt. Province.
CMGP program is an initiative of the National Government which addresses poor local road conditions that hamper mobility, connectivity of road networks, and economic development in LGUs. This program provides funds for such projects as incentives to provinces with good performance in terms of the implementation of Local Road Management and Public Financial Management reforms.
Julie Malig, MLGOO of Kibungan and the representative of DILG-Benguet during the ground-breaking ceremony, congratulated the provincial government of Benguet led by Governor Diclas and the municipal LGU of Kibungan led by Mayor Molitas for they would not be able to get such support from the National Government if not because of their practice of Good Housekeeping.
Meanwhile, Governor Diclas thanked the people in the community for their cooperation especially those whose lot will be affected by the road upgrading and improvement.
