LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – More than P520,000 worth of marijuana plants were successfully destroyed by combined police operatives and anti-narcotics agents during marijuana eradication operations in three plantation sites in the province over the weekend.
In Kapangan, a joint operation launched by PRO CAR’s Regional Police Drug Enforcement Unit, the Benguet Police Provincial Office (PPO), and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Cordillera Administrative Region (PDEA-CAR) led to the discovery and destruction of 2,000 fully grown marijuana plants (FGMJP) with a Standard Drug Price (SDP) of P400,000.00 in Barangay Sagubo.
Further, in Barangay Tacadang, Kibungan joint operatives from the Benguet PPO and PDEA-CAR located two marijuana plantation sites containing a total of 600 fully grown marijuana plants with a standard drug price of P120,000.00.
All discovered plants were documented, uprooted, and burned on-site, while enough samples were collected and submitted to the Regional Forensic Unit Cordillera Administrative Region for further analysis.
PRO CAR Regional Director, PBGen. David K. Peredo, Jr., commended the operatives for their dedication and vigilance in the fight against illegal drugs. He also called on the public to remain vigilant and report any suspected illegal drug activity to help ensure a safer, drug-free community. By Dexter A. See
What a waste of marijuana and of law enforcement resources and energy. In this day and age, Benguet can boost social services by developing a regulated medical marijuana industry, tapping into the $73.28B global cannabis market. Legalization would generate tax revenue, create jobs, and fund healthcare and education while ensuring sustainable farming practices. A well-structured framework can position Benguet as a leader in ethical cannabis production.
