CONNER, Apayao – The final inspection of the PhP7 million solar pump irrigation (SIP) project in Barangay Daga, Conner was successfully conducted on May 8, 2024, marking the completion of the project.
Funded under the Small Irrigation Project (SIP) CY 2023, the Daga SIP Phase 3 in Barangay Daga aims to develop a new agricultural area spanning 15 hectares, benefiting 10 farmers in the area.
Engr. Alwin V. Sabbun Jr., Project-in-Charge, and Engr. Josephine C. Alvarado, Chief Engineering Section of the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) Irrigation Management Office (IMO), led the final inspection on May 2, 2024.
The completion of this project shows NIA’s commitment to modernization and innovation in irrigation systems. NIA utilizes its infrastructure, including irrigation systems, dams, and reservoirs, not only for traditional agriculture but also for aquaculture, agro-tourism, and renewable energy sources, contributing to the overall growth of the province.
NIA’s focus on solar-powered irrigation projects shows its adoption of cutting-edge technology to alleviate farmers’ financial burdens associated with diesel pumps. With solar panels, pumps, electronic controllers, storage tanks, and conveyor systems, these projects offer a cost-effective alternative to traditional gasoline or diesel-powered pumps, particularly considering rising fuel prices.
The completed irrigation facilities include a Sump Pit and Inlet, Solar Pumphouse equipped with 24 solar panels and a 7.5 Submersible Pump, PV Array Structure, Perimeter Fence, 4 Turnout units (3 main canal units and 1 unit for Lateral A), 1 Drainage Crossing, 200 meters Pipeline consisting of 34 pieces of 10” diameter HDPE Pipe, 314.80 meters of Main Canal 3, and 218 meters of Lateral canal.
This project represents NIA’s dedication to sustainable and efficient irrigation practices, contributing significantly to the agricultural development and economic progress of Apayao. By Krizza Joy Castillo
