BAGUIO CITY – The Panagbenga Flower Festival concluded its festivities with a dazzling firework display at SM Baguio and Melvin Jones Grandstand on Sunday, March 2, 2025, at 8 PM.
Crowds gathered to witness the night sky come alive with bursts of color and light. “Watching the fireworks during the Panagbenga closing was a cathartic experience,” said Sofia Bangaoet, who enjoyed the spectacle from SM Baguio’s Sky Garden, surrounded by fireworks from all directions.
She added, “Sharing it with my friends made it even more special. As we turned to admire the fireworks, the moment felt nostalgic as it reminded me of my grandfather, and I couldn’t help but feel a deep connection to him.”
As another Panagbenga Festival came to a close, new memories were made. The breathtaking fireworks display not only marked the end of the month-long celebration but also sparked nostalgia, bringing back cherished moments from past festivals spent with loved ones.
But Panagbenga is more than just a celebration of flowers. It is a grand festival that highlights the artistic, cultural, and tourism aspects of Baguio City. Over the years, it has become a platform to showcase local talent, artistry, and traditions, drawing thousands of visitors from all over the country and beyond.
The festival featured an array of activities, from the much-anticipated Grand Float Parade adorned with vibrant floral masterpieces to the lively Street Dance Competition, where performers in colorful costumes showcased the rich cultural heritage of the Cordillera region. Art exhibits, trade fairs, and community-led initiatives also played a significant role in the festivities, further reinforcing the festival’s theme of sustainability and community involvement.
Business owners and vendors also reaped the benefits of the festival’s massive turnout. Hotels and restaurants were fully booked, while local artisans and merchants saw increased sales, a testament to the economic boost brought about by the festival’s success.
“The Panagbenga Festival is not just about flowers; it is about celebrating the spirit of Baguio—our history, our people, and our way of life,” said Mayor Benjamin Magalong. “Every year, we welcome visitors to experience our city’s unique blend of tradition and progress, and the festival serves as a reminder of our commitment to preserving our cultural identity.”
As the final spark of the fireworks display faded into the night, spectators clapped and cheered, embracing the joy and warmth the festival had brought into their lives. For many, Panagbenga is more than just an event; it is an annual tradition that fosters a deep sense of belonging and pride among the people of Baguio.
With the echoes of laughter of the locals and visitors, the city now looks forward to the next chapter of Panagbenga, eager to make the festival even more memorable in the coming years.
