LINGAYEN, Pangasinan January 27 – Governor Amado I. Espino, III recognized young Pangasinenses who made big waves in the national scene last year, extolling them as sources of inspiration for their fellow youth.
Receiving acknowledgment and cash incentives from the provincial government during the courtesy call on the provincial chief executive held on January 26 at the Urduja House were information technology and engineering students of the Urdaneta City University (UCU) who garnered top awards in two national competitions last year.
Assuring all-out support to the higher education students in the province, Governor Espino vowed to support them on their academic endeavors and extra-curricular activities which help enhance their proficiency in their fields of expertise.
UCU Knight Coders Marvin Trecenio, Byron Jan Mairina and Justine Louise Villanueva prevailed champion in the Android Mobile App Development competition (utility/productivity category) of the Google Developers Group Android Masters national event held at the De La Salle University in Manila on November 19.
The Pangasinan-based university defeated finalists from top universities, colleges and information technology schools in Metro Manila.
The ‘nutrivision’ app, a food photo analysis application produced by the info-tech students garnered the top plum, along with the most-downloaded app minor award, in a field of 192 participating schools from all over the country.
The Urdaneta android masters coach, Arnel Ocay, acknowledged the big help of the provincial government through the Provincial Information Office for promoting the food photo analysis app via the official facebook page of the province.
On the other hand, UCU mechanical engineering students Renz Del Rosario, Micah Medrano, Randy Bonalos, Rammel Rincuraya and Jan Robert Echavaria placed 4th in the design competition of the Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineers National Convention held on October 19-20 last year in SMX Convention Center in Pasay City.
The fifth year mechanical engineers developed the entry ‘sortation’, which is a principle in the machine design course.
Meanwhile, Blessilda R. Rosario, a topnotches (8th place) of 77,466 examinees in the September 2016 Licensure Examination for Teachers was also recognized for her academic feat.
Rosario finished her Bachelor of Elementary Education degree at the Adelphi College – Lingayen.
With the UCU students were top officials of UCU led by its President, Dr. Elizabeth Montero, deans of the engineering, nursing and computer studies colleges and the advisers who accompanied the winners in their respective contests.
