LINGAYEN, Pangasinan – The Local Road Management Team of the provincial government and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) convened on July 10-11 at the Capitol Resort Hotel here to come up with strategies to further boost road projects in Pangasinan.
As part of the Provincial Assessment Workshop on Local Capacities for Local Road Management (LRM) and Public Financial Management (PFM), the meeting focused on further advancing the governance reform program on LRM and PFM.
Relative to this governance reform program, the province of Pangasinan is a beneficiary of the Conditional Matching Grant to Provinces (CMGP), a project of the DILG which is intended for Road Repair, Rehabilitation, and Improvement of Local Roads in 78 provinces.
Governor Amado I. Espino, III, in his recent 2nd State of the Province Address, thanked the DILG for its all-out support to local road projects in the province, noting further, Pangasinan is recognized by the DILG as the top provincial local government unit in the entire country in the successful implementation of the Konkreto at Ayos na Lansangan ang Daan Tungo sa Pangkahalatang Kaunlaran (KALSADA) 2016 and CMGP 2017 funded projects.
The CMGP road projects are on top of the provincial government-funded infrastructure projects, which include the construction, rehabilitation, and maintenance of roads, bridges, public buildings, and other special infra projects.
Ever Abasolo, Mentor-Facilitator from the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), said Pangasinan is among the top 21 provinces in the country which is benefitted by the CMGP.
“Fundamental elements of good governance are required for the availment of the grant. It is good to note that here in Pangasinan, 100 percent of roads are paved, either concreted or asphalted, and are in good and fair condition,” Abasolo added.
Meanwhile, Provincial Administrator Nimrod Camba, who represented Gov. Espino during the activity, pointed out that the provincial administration prioritizes programs for the improvement of national and local roads to increase economic activities, and to help improve access to facilities and services in the province.
“Makakaasa po kayo sa DILG na lahat ng tulong nyo sa probinsya through the CMGP ay mararamdaman ng ating mga kababayan,” Atty. Camba said.
