LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – The Cordillera office of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-CAR) and the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry – Cordillera (PCCI-CAR) signed an agreement to jointly undertake a project on science and technology assistance for competitive packaging and labelling services for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the Cordillera.
The agreement was signed by Dr. Julius Caesar V. Sicat, DOST-CAR Regional Director, and Engr. Marciano L. Garcia, PCCI Regional Governor and witnessed by Ms. Nancy A. Bantog, Assistant Regional Director for Technical Services of the DOST-CAR and Dr. Rhodora A. Ngolob, PCCI – Baguio-Benguet Chapter President and a member of PCCI-CAR.
Under the agreement, DOST-CAR shall provide the amount of P428,676 to cover the implementation of the whole project and coordinate with the PCCI-CAR to provide the counterpart for the project collaboration.
Furthermore, the agency shall coordinate with the PCCI-CAR on the identified programs and activities in support to the enhancement of the packaging and labelling to MSMes in the region.
Likewise, DOST-CAR shall ensure that the target of a minimum of 77 packaging label designs will be provided to MSMEs in the region and establish a continuous and stronger partnership with the PCCI-CAR in support to the MSMEs regionwide.
On the other hand, PCCI-CAR shall provide the counterpart of P100,000 for the project and implement the identified programs under the approved project proposal by looking into the long-term and continuing educational enhancement of MSMEs in terms of entrepreneurial and business skills, marketing and product promotion among others.
Moreover, PCCI-CAR was mandated to submit a terminal report to DOST-CAR on the 10th of January 2016.
Executive Order No. 128 mandates the DOST to provide central direction, leadership and coordination of scientific and technological efforts and ensure that the results therefrom are geared and utilized in areas of maximum and social benefits for the people.
Subsequently, PCCI-CAR is the main voice of Philippine business that is recognized by both the government and international institutions and promotes and supports the drive for globally competitive Philippine enterprise in partnership with government, local chambers and other business organizations.
Earlier, PCCI-CAR has identified a program design to assist micro, small and medium enterprises in specifically under the approved project that will improve their competitiveness in the global market.
Both groups agreed to work together for the implementation of the said project and subsequently pledged to extend their full cooperation for the effective and efficient implementation of the identified programs and projects.
