BAGUIO CITY – The Persons with Disability Affairs Office (PDAO) said that it will replicate the successful conduct of the first ever Pedia Summer Camp in the city with the projected participation of children with disabilities from the city’s barangays.
PDEAO head Dr. Samuel G. Aquino said that the local version of the pedia camp will ensure the active participation of children with disabilities from the different barangays, their parents and potential volunteers from civic organizations and even concerned government agencies and the local government.
Initially, he claimed that the proposed pedia summer camp by the local government will be done in just five days unlike in the previously conducted camp where it was done in a 10-day period and that it will be done in the different barangays to allow the children with disabilities to immerse with their respective communities.
The PDAO official stated that the local government will have sufficient time to prepare for the proposed pedia summer camp in the city next year that is why appropriate coordination with the prospective participants and the barangays will be immediately be done to avoid unnecessary issues and concerns that will transpire when the event will be held.
The PDAO is the local government’s arm in the implementation of various programs and interventions geared towards uplifting the welfare of persons with disability considering that they are part of what the government considers as marginalized and vulnerable sectors.
Aquino encouraged persons with disability and the parents of children with disability to register with the PDAO so that they will be included in the local government’s database and for them to be able to access whatever available support from concerned government agencies and the city for their welfare and be part of the programs and interventions being provided for the said sector.
He assured concerned sectors that the PDAO will continue to work on the implementation of various programs and interventions in partnership with both concerned government agencies and the private sector to sustain the upliftment of the welfare of persons with disabilities residing in the city’s barangays.
