BONTOC, Mountain Province – The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) Chair and Gov. Bonifacio C. Lacwasan, Jr. and Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer Edward F. Chumawar, Jr. presided over the council’s fourth regular meeting, held at the Governor Leonard G. Mayaen Sports Center on December 04, 2024.
During the meeting, the PDRRMC provided updates on the recent typhoons that struck the province.
According to PDRRMO Rehabilitation and Recovery Division Chief Paul M. Lengwa, the 10 municipalities of Mountain Province, reported a total of PhP1, 530, 194,820.33 worth of damages on infrastructure, social, and agriculture in the province. In relation to this, Chumawar informed that a Post Disaster Needs Assessment will be conducted by members of the Regional DRRMC to assess/ validate the physical damages and economic losses caused by the effects of typhoons. Moreover, he informed the body that the Mountain Province PDRRMC is a 2024 GAWAD KALASAG National and Regional awardee (i.e., Beyond Compliant), together with the municipalities of Bontoc and Tadian. Also, he informed that the eight other municipalities are also awardees under the “Fully Compliant” category. The awarding ceremonies, he said, are tentatively scheduled for the second week of December 2024.
Furthermore, in the report of the Mountain Province Provincial Police Office Police Lieutenant Colonel Jimmy K. Macwes, he informed the council how the entire police force has actively been conducting environmental activities, like tree planting and clean-up drives.
“Let us continue to advocate anti-forest fire programs to make our environmental activities more impactful and mitigate the effects of climate change,” he said.
Meanwhile, the governor thanked the council members for the service they have given to the people of the provinces.
