BAGUIO CITY – City officials strengthened responsible pet ownership, through registration and vaccination of dogs and cats, by encouraging pet owners in the city to comply with the implementation of Ordinance No. 19, series of 2021 or the Responsible Dog Ownership ordinance of the local government.
Under Resolution No. 715, series of 2024, local legislators stated that this action should encourage pet owners to be responsible in performing their duties as pet owners and for the safety of the community.
During the Scout Officials For A Day (SOFAD) session held on October 21, 2024, the SOFAD Council adopted the proposal of SOFAD Councilor Lindsey C. Wong that seeks to strengthen the implementation of the Responsible Dog Ownership Ordinance of the city or Ordinance No. 19, series of 2021, specifically on the registration and vaccination of dogs and cats.
This ordinance provides that an individual who keeps a dog of three months of age should be registered with the City Veterinary and Agriculture Office (CVAO) or at the barangay and submit the same to regular vaccination.
Further, the dog tags shall be provided by owners containing the dog’s registration information.
The council noted that despite the efforts of the CVAO personnel and other concerned agencies to implement this ordinance, there are still dog and cat owners who refuse to submit their dogs and acts for mandatory registration, provide tags and be regularly vaccinated.
The body pointed out that the faithful implementation of registration and vaccination provides better facilitation and management of the dog and cat population in the city aside from increasing the percentage of vaccination which contributes to their overall wellbeing.
Copies of the ordinance will be transmitted to the CVAO and the 128 barangays for information, guidance, ready reference and further needed action. By Dexter A. See
