PBC and Expo is a two-day event that gathered different stakeholders to discuss updates on lessening the business cost, infrastructures that would harness competitiveness, and open trade opportunities. The event also became an avenue to talk on the cooperation of the ASEAN, East Asian and Asia-Pacific economies, the legislative agenda promoting inclusive growth, the interventions backing the local economies, generating supply of workforce equipped with skills demanded by the industries, among others.
Further, the 43rd Philippine Business Conference and Exposition (PBC) will convene local, national and global leaders from business and government to further look into other synergies and strategies needed to create a more competitive business and investment environment leading to the envisioned economic transformation by 2022. It will explore how the country can take GIANT STEPS to a LEAP forward.
Encouraged by the accomplishment of being one of the best-performing economies in Asia, the Philippines, under a new leadership, has embarked on a long-term program under the slogan Ambisyon 2040 . Ambisyon 2040 envisions a prosperous, predominantly middle-class society by 2040.
Supportive of this vision, the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) in 2016 adopted its banner program called GIANT STEPS to help the country sustain at least an annual 7-8 percent economic growth in the next six years and contribute to the transformation of the economy into an upper middle-income one by 2022, in pursuit of becoming high-income country by 2040.
GIANT STEPS spells out programs specifically in the build-up of soft and hard infrastructure; reducing the cost of doing business; enhancing innovation; and, strengthening key economic sectors such as tourism, agriculture and manufacturing. In 2017, PCCI embraced LEAP to ensure that GIANT STEPS moves forward. LEAP stands for Leadership, Enterprise, Action and Performance. (PCCI Press Releases)
