City officials recently congratulated and commended Adrian Kirby Esplana for being awarded the Philippine National Record Static Apnea (STA) holder for male category during the Association International Pour Le Development de I’Apnie (AIDA) Mabini Pool Series II held at Mabini, Batangas last April 2021.
In a resolution, local legislators stated that the achievement of Esplana brought honor and pride to the city and serves as an inspiration for diving enthusiasts to try the said kind of discipline.
AIDA, or the International Association of the Development of Apnea, is a worldwide rule and record keeping body for competitive breath holding events known as freediving.
AIDA Mabini Pool Series II is a two-day freediving pool discipline competition or static and dynamic pool discipline held at Lawom Pool Center, Mabini, Batangas.
STA or Static Apnea is a discipline in freediving where the athlete holds his or her breath face down in a pool for as long as possible.
Further, STA is the only freediving discipline which is measured by duration rather than depth or distance.
Esplana, who hails from New Lucban barangay, is the new and current record holder under the male freediving STA national record with a record of six minutes breath hold.
Copies of the approved resolution will be transmitted to Esplana for information, guidance, ready reference and further needed action. By Dexter A. See
