To recognize the bravery of the war veterans in devoting their life for the freedom of the Philippines, the Philippine Veterans Affairs Office (PVAO) commemorated the 83rd Day of Valor and Philippine Veterans Week.
According to Cherrylyn Sabling, Head of PVAO- Cordillera Administrative Region, one of the purpose of this celebration is to promote and preserve the heroic acts of the World War II veterans who fought during the Japanese Occupation and the post-war veterans.
“Itong Philippine veterans week is for us to honor the patriotism of our war veterans, the sacrifices of our veterans, this is to enhance their patriotism, to inspire our youth especially of today” Sabling said.
Sabling also encouraged the youth to show heroism and love for the country through various ways such as taking actions to contribute in solving the country’s problems like climate change and global warming.
She urged that aside from using firearms to defend the country, youth can help in bringing peace to the country by informing the responsible government officials if they know someone who is a user or pusher of illegal drugs.
Joel Dacquigan, Vice President of Sons and Daughters Association Incorporated (SDAI) and son of the World War II veteran First Lieutenant Felipe Dacquigan also stated the importance of observing the Day of Valor.
“This is the reason why our La Trinidad officials, the SDAI are here to observe a solemn day of remembrance for the Filipino and American soldiers who bravely fought in the battle of Bataan” Dacquigan said. By Rhealyn Charwin
