LUNA, Apayao – The Office of the Vice President (OVP) disbursed a total of PhP914,718 under the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Tulong Panghanapuhay sa Ating Disadvantage/ Displaced Workers (TUPAD) during a payout done last August 20, 2024.
TUPAD program provides emergency employment for underemployed and seasonal workers. The disbursement benefitted 219 TUPAD workers from municipalities of Flora, Santa Marcela and Pudtol.
According to DOLE-Apayao this is the 4th batch of payout of wages for 72 beneficiaries in Santa Marcela amounting to PhP309,609. These individuals worked 10 days on community gardening to address malnutrition and the construction of community kiosk in Barangay Malekkeg Santa Marcela.
The municipal government of Santa Marcela provided the seeds and materials for the kiosk construction.
Meanwhile in Flora, there were also 72 beneficiaries of TUPAD with wages totaling to PhP309, 609. In Pudtol town, there were 75 recipients of wages amounting to PhP322,500 with each beneficiary receiving wages for 10 days at PhP4, 300 each.
This payout was attended by the OVP representative Wilhelmina Quilang, Provincial Head of DOLE-Apayao Jane Adalan and her staff, Soledad Espita – Provincial Public Employment Service Office (PESO), representative from the office of the Congresswoman, the PESO offices of the local\governments, and the beneficiaries.
The payout was made possible through the initiative of Apayao Lone District Representative Congresswoman Eleanor C. Bulut- Begtang.
The recipients extended their warmest gratitude to the OVP, DOLE-Apayao and PESO for the opportunity of having temporary employment. They said it served as a symbol of hope, indicating a path toward a better future. By Krizza Joy Castillo
