BAGUIO CITY – The Department of Agriculture-Agricultural Credit Policy Council (ACPC), in collaboration with the Agribusiness and Marketing Division (AMAD), conducted the Kapital at Ipon Tungo sa Asenso (KITA Mo Na!) Financial Education Training at the DA – CAR last October 16 and 17.
The training, which was conducted in two batches, was attended by partner lending conduits and its members. The first batch, held on October 16, was attended by 30 participants while the second batch, held on October 17, was attended by 38 participants.
The KITA Mo Na! Financial Education training is an educational and interactive simulation game designed for small farmers, fisherfolk, and livestock raisers to help them learn how to contribute to the achievement of long-term goals through fundamental personal financial management skills like having savings, budgeting, managing debt, credit discipline, basic financial services, protection from potential scams, and rights & responsibilities of financial consumers and create action plans to become more informed financial decision makers.
During the game, the participants were given play money bills to utilize and were placed in various scenarios where they would either make money or lose it. At the end of the game, all of their gains were then calculated.
When asked about his strategies during the game, Selvino Valeriano, one of the participants said, “Pag may kinita, nilalagay ko sa savings at kumukuha ako ng insurance kasi nakakatulong ito.”
[When I earn money, I put it into my savings and purchase insurance because it is beneficial.
Participants considered the training to be both entertaining and highly educational because it was interactive rather than a traditional lecture class.
The synthesis explained the six main messages that the game is centered around – debt management, boosting income through side projects and acquiring new talents, saving for the future, getting insurance for protection, being cautious on scams, and being kind to the environment were the takeaways.
The KITA Mo Na! was created as part of the Financial Education Partnership between the BDO Foundation (BDOF), the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, and the DA-ACPC. It will be rolled out to small farmers and fisherfolk who are borrowers of several ACPC credit programs around the country. By AlyssaDawnAlalag
