TAYUM, Abra – The Department of Agriculture- Cordillera (DA-CAR) together with the provincial government turned over an Integrated National Swine Production Initiatives for Repopulation and Expansion (INSPIRE) project to the Abra Diocesan Teachers Multi-Purpose Cooperative (ADTEMPCO) in Sitio Pagpagatpat Brgy. Bumagkat, Tayum, Abra on January 17, 2024.
This PhP5 million worth of project comes with a biosecure facility inclusive of perimeter fence, climate-controlled animal house, waste management system-biogas, basic farm equipment, office, shower area with Initial stocks of piglets including feeds and biologics.
This INSPIRE Program is one of the priorities of the DA-National Livestock Program that aims to institutionalize the biosecurity and disease control measures in tandem with calibrated repopulation and enhancement of the local swine industry to recover the sector’s capacity to locally produce sufficient supply of hogs and pork in the country.
The challenge given to the group was to produce sufficient pork for the municipality of Tayum and its nearby localities, and that the recipient cooperative to assist the smallholder piggeries in the area.
In his acceptance message, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of ADTEMPCO, Rev. Fr. Cirilo O. Ortega, SVD, thanked all those who made the project possible, especially those in the local governments and the regional field office of the DA in the Cordillera (DA-RFO-CAR). He also said that they will prosper the project, and help more of their members and non-members who are engaged in swine production.
The turnover ceremony was witnessed by personnel from the DA-RFO-CAR led by Dr. Leisley C. Deligen, OIC, Chief of Regulatory Division and staff from the provincial government led by Dr. Jomary Zales.
Retired DA-CAR Regulatory Division Chief Ruben Dulagan was also present along with the staff from the DA-Agricultural Provincial Coordinating Office Abra. By Adelama Reparejo/Tan Dulag
