“Our number one enemy is silence,” a statement highlighted by Police General Benjamin C. Acorda Jr., Chief, Philippine National Police to motivate collaboration of the state, the press and people in the approaching Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSK) at a press conference on 122nd Anniversary of Police Regional Office Cordillera on October 19, Camp Major Bado Dangwa.
Following the issues on election rivalry in Abra, PGEN Acorda confirmed that the province is still not in the red category. But as one of the areas of concern, they will deploy regional forces. In addition, he made clear that categorization of such barangays will be the basis for the increase or decrease of the number for deployment. He also made sure that they always keep an eye when it comes to the conduct of BSK elections.
“Let the voice of the people be heard yun ang instruction sa atin and they exercise their practice of democracy at yung right to suffrage, and isakatuparan yung magiging kapayapaan, at sa honesty at orderly,” PGEN Acorda expressed.
In connection to the public officials who were involved in criminal activities, PGEN Acorda stated that they will always be on the lookout and the corps will do their job without fear or favor. He assured that they will apply the laws to prevent candidates involved in illegal drugs from being elected.
“Kasi mantakin mo, these are the basic foundation of our government yung barangay, if yung ating mga basic, yung mga leader natin sila na mamumuno, na sila rin mismo ang involve sa iligal na droga mahirap pong iexplain sa mga kababayan natin,” PGEN Acorda exclaimed.
In relation, He also addressed the issue of transporting of Marijuana in the Kalinga and Benguet, by mentioning their campaign against illegal drugs. He said they are in continuous monitoring of such personalities involved in the distribution and production of marijuana.
In his closing statement, PGEN Acorda encouraged to work united by being open to speak for truth, “Kung lahat tayo ay maninindigan at handang magsalita, ilabas ang katotohanan unti-unting aayos tayong lahat.” By Adrian Mas
