BONTOC, Mountain Province – The provincial government turned over the proceeds of the 2024 Women’s Month Walk-for-a-Cause to 45 dialysis patients at the Bontoc General Hospital.
The turnover ceremony, which took place at the frontage of the Dialysis Unit of the Provincial Health Office on August 2, 2024, was led by Executive Assistant Winston V. Calde, representing Governor Bonifacio C. Lacwasan, Jr., and Provincial Health Officer Carolyn D. Yawan.
According to Provincial Population and Development Department Head Eunice G. Andaya, a total amount of PhP132,240 was collected from the cause that was held last March 11, 2024, in celebration of Women’s Month.
Andaya explained that originally, each patient would receive PhP2,939; however, Governor Lacwasan augmented the amount collected to PhP135,000, therefore increasing the cash assistance per patient to PhP3,000.
In his message, Calde mentioned that Lacwasan is supportive to such activities, like the walk-for-a-cause, as they help uplift the lives and ease the challenging situations of the province’s constituents who are in need of help. In addition, Calde also made mention of the governor’s readiness to help in whatever assistance he can provide.
“The governor is encouraging this kind of activity tapno kuma sinan saga bassit ay mai tulong mi ket mai level up nan situation yu.
Adi kayo madanagan, the governor is always here to support with whatever ay mabalin na ay mai tulong para ken dakayo,” Calde said.
Meanwhile, Yawan explained to the beneficiaries that undergoing dialysis is not a death sentence and that they can still have a meaningful life for as long as they maintain regular consultation with their doctor/s, take their medication religiously, consistently take their laboratory examinations, stay active and alert, think positively, and eat right.
In addition to Yawan’s advice, Provincial Hospital Administrator Juanita L. Lampac, urged the beneficiaries to include fish, except those that are preserved or those in cans, in their diet as its high protein content is beneficial to their health situation.
In response, Manuel Chomacog and Paula Acofo, on behalf of all the beneficiaries, were one in expressing their gratitude to all the stakeholders of the provincial government for their concerted efforts in providing support to those who are in need of assistance such as dialysis patients. By Hail, MP
