LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – The leadership of the State-run Benguet State University (BSU) warmly welcomed the proposal of Benguet caretaker congressman and Anti-Crime and Terrorism through County Involvement and Support (ACT-CIS) Party-list Rep. Eric Yap as the same will surely help spur economic activities in the capital town and entice people to visit the one-stop shop facility,
BSU president Dr. Felipe S. Comila stated that the proposal of Congressman Yap will surely form part of the proposed comprehensive master development plan and updating of the university’s comprehensive land use plan so that the same will be aligned with the vision, mission, goals and objectives of the present administration.
He said that Congressman Yap will definitely be a major partner of the university in the crafting of its overall programs, projects and activities that will be geared towards elevating the state of the premier university in the region to a higher level in terms of being a center for education, especially on agriculture and research.
The BSU president claimed that the initial plan was for the establishment of a government center right in the heart of the valley that will host the regional and provincial offices of various agencies to ensure that there will be a venue where government offices will be based to ensure the convenience of the public transacting businesses in the said offices.
However, Congressman Yap emphasized that the new BSU administration should temporarily stop donating portions of its landholdings and wait the crafting of the university’s comprehensive master development plan so that the potentials of the higher education institution to generate substantial resources that will be used to improve the overall status of the institution.
According to him, BSU must be able to show to the people of Benguet its contribution to the projected overall development of the province into one of the possible first-class provinces in the country after having been classified as a second-class province over the past several decades despite its potentials to be a first-class province based on existing standards.
Comila said that the university is grateful of having a congressman who is willing to share his bright ideas and exert extra effort in helping the institution source out the needed funds for the overall growth and development not only of the university but also the province which he had embraced as his district where he was to show a new brand of leadership and set the excellent standards for public service that should be replicated by future leaders of Benguet.
He assured Congressman Yap that the new BSU administration will closely work with him in the identification of the priority programs and projects that will be immediately implemented for the benefit of working out the desired development of the university for the same to catch up with other prestigious state universities and colleges that had been established in the different parts of the country.
Comila was overwhelmingly voted upon by the members of the BSU Board of Regents during the election of the new University President held last November 26, 2020 where he will be serving as the 7th president in the next 4 years.
