LUNA, Apayao — There was a major decline in live births in the province, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority–Apayao (PSA-Apayao) for the third quarter of 2024.
Apayao registered 1,053 live births from October to December 2024, which is 8.4 per cent lower compared to 1,150 births in the last quarter of last year.
Based on PSA-Apayao data, Luna had the highest number of births at 690, followed by Conner with 223. The other municipalities recorded lower numbers: Pudtol-47, Kabugao-39, Flora-29, Calanasan (16), and Santa Marcela-9.
There was a slight female dominance in births, with females comprising 53.2 per cent of total births and males comprising 46.8 per cent.
PSA said that timely registration was achieved for 920 births. Meantime, there were 133 cases of late registration, indicating that efforts are still needed to improve birth registration processes in the province. By Loremia Pareja
