The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Baguio-Benguet field office recently lined up various activities to celebrate the 34th Civil Registration month this February.
The theme of this month-long celebration is “CRVS: The Future of Seamless Service” which focuses on reaching the civil registration and vital statistics decades goals through efficient service that utilize updated technology, enable better risk management and increase plans that promote customer satisfaction.
Among the activities that have been lined up for the month-long celebration include the display of streamers in support to the celebration of the Civil Registration Month that will be posted in each of the city and municipalities; motorcade that will jumpstart the activities for the said celebration that will start from the Baguio Convention Center passing through the central business district up to the capital town of La Trinidad, Benguet that will be followed by the kick off program and quiz for the civil registration staff from the various offices in Baguio and Benguet to screen the qualifiers for the regional level and conduct of symposium, poster making, slogan making and essay writing contest that will include various information and education campaign in various barangays, schools and interested groups.
Under the civil registration mandate of PSA, the agency is in charge of the acceptance of the registration of the certificate of registration of authority to solemnize marriages where the said license is filed at the PSA by the solemnizing officers such as priests, rabbis, imams, ministers for any religious sect which includes the registration of the same license for tribal heads and chieftains. This registration of the license was carried over by the effectivity of Executive Order No. 209 also known as the Family Code of the Philippines which was previously handled by the former National Statistics Office (NSO).
Simon Tagaban Aquino, PSA Baguio-Benguet Registration officer, said that there were some 288 applications for the issuance of the said license in 2022 where the top three months of application were November with 49, January with 39 and February with 38.
In 2023, the PSA Baguio-Benguet received some 247 applications where the highest number of applicants was in November with 45 followed by January with 24 and December with 41.
In terms of place of assignment, Baguio had the highest number of applicants with 155 followed by La Trinidad with 57 and Itogon with 15 during the previous year. Las year, Baguio remained with the highest number of license applicants with 134 followed by La Trinidad with 44 and Itogon with 15. By Dexter A. See
