The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) launched the rebranding of National ID as part of its communication strategy to encourage wider acceptance and usage among the public.
Jude Lo, PSA Registration Officer II, shared that the term Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) confuses the mass. “Daytoy PhilSys, nagrigat piman ngay nga PhilSys ibagbagam kadagitoy da constituents haan da maaw-awatan (The term PhilSys is difficult for our constituents to understand),” he enthused.
Instead of “PhilID,” the term “National ID” will now be used for internal and external communications, forms, and information, education, and communication (IEC) materials for a broader understanding of the mass.
Lo furthered that since the National ID is “more universally recognized and understood,” the rebranding could be reflected through different formats such as the National ID Card which is the PVC form, the National ID in paper form, and the Digital National ID which is the downloaded form.
Furthermore, the processing of the ID card could take some time, thus, while waiting for the PVC form, individuals who registered can use the two other forms as official and valid ID in any government and private transaction.
These updates on the National ID were revealed during the celebration of the 35 th civil registration month held on February 4 at Strawberry Valley Hotel and Restaurant with the theme, “Building a Resilient, Agile, and Future-fit Civil Registration and Vital Statistics System.”
Included in the program was the quiz bee among the PSA candidates from Baguio City and the 13 municipalities of Benguet. The winners are La Trinidad as the champion, followed by Baguio City, and then Itogon as the third placer.
Aside from the rebranding, PSA also urged everyone, including children ages 0-4, to register for the National ID.
Some registration sites in Baguio and Benguet are located at the PSA-Baguio office in Legarda Road, in Center Mall, in Malcolm Square, in the La Trinidad municipal hall, and Buguias municipal hall. They are open from Mondays to Saturdays. By Lyka Capsula, Blessah Joy Manuel and Rhealyn Charwin
