BAGUIO CITY – City officials recently reminded and informed the residents and visitors to the city on the pertinent provisions of Ordinance No. 49, series of 2019 or the Anti-distracted Walking Ordinance of the local government.
Under Resolution No. 714, series of 2024, local legislators stated that to enhance public awareness of this program and initiative, there is a need for continuing information to both about the ordinance and the BCPO must station police personnel on all of the city’s main thoroughfares for the effective implementation of the said measure.
During the Scout officials For A Day (SOFAD) session held on October 21, 2024, the SOFAD Council adopted the proposal of SOFAD Councilor Ashlee Joy Sibayan that reminded city residents on the pertinent provisions of Ordinance No. 49, series of 2019 or the Anti-distracted Walking ordinance.
This ordinance prohibits and regulates the use of mobile devices while walking and crossing streets in the city.
Moreover, the ordinance also prohibits reading any material while crossing pedestrian lanes or walking on sidewalks or the streets.
It has been observed that despite the strict enforcement of the pertinent provisions of the ordinance, many residents and visitors still grossly violate the same when crossing pedestrian lanes and while walking along streets in the different parts of the city.
Copies of the approved resolution will be transmitted to the concerned offices of the local government and other law enforcement agencies for information, guidance, ready reference and further needed action. By Dexter A. See
