LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Residents and visitors alike will have a chance to partake of a replica of the gain strawberry cake that will be served to the public as one of the highlights of the town’s 36th Strawberry Festival during simple rites to be done at the municipal here on March 19, 2017.
Mayor Romeo Salda explained the strawberry cake that will be served to the public will simply be a replica of the giant strawberry cake capable of feeding at least 10,000 individuals wanting to partake of the said cake.
“We are now on the process of ironing out the details of the presentation of the replica of the giant strawberry cake to the public. We are optimistic that with the support of the town’s private sector, we will be able to provide our people with a quality strawberry cake which they could partake,” Salda stressed.
In 2004, La Trinidad was able to land in the Guinness Book of World Records after it was able to serve to the public its Giant Strawberry Cake that was served to the residents and visitors.
However, those interested to partake of the replica of the strawberry cake will be charged by the organizers P15 per slice for them to be able to recover their expenses in the preparations and eventual serving of the cake to the public.
He added the presentation of the replica of the giant strawberry cake will be done in partnership with the various bake shops in the municipality who will be pooling their resources to be able to serve the town’s known identity to the residents and visitors wanting to partake of the strawberry cake.
According to him, the presentation and serving of the replica of the giant strawberry cake is timely considering that the organizers of the festival did not present the strawberry cake for the public to partake during the conduct of the previous festivities.
Salda extended the invitation to the public to visit the town and join the various activities that were lined up for the 36th edition of the Strawberry Festival which will be until the end of the month.
La Trinidad is the main producer of the famous strawberry fruit with its over 700hectares of strawberry plantations located within the strawberry fields owned by the State-run Benguet State University (BSU).
Aside from being able to recover the expenses of the preparation of the strawberry cake, the municipal mayor added the excess fees collected from those who will partake of the cake will be used to augment the expenses that will be incurred by the organizers in the conduct of the other activities that runs until the end of the month.
Organizers assured the public that the replica of the strawberry cake to be served will be similar to the giant strawberry cake prepared by the municipality that allowed the municipality to be able to be listed in the Guinness Book of world Records for being able to bake the Giant Strawberry |Cake in the global village.
