PUDTOL, Apayao – Driven by its sincere commitment to environmental sustainability across the municipality, the Municipal Solid Waste Management Board (MSWMB) convened on August 20 for the third quarter to craft solutions to current environmental concerns, aiming to clinch the spot for province-wide search for most eco-friendly town.
With the presence of its members, several major concerns, initiatives, strategies and plans pertaining to solid waste management were considered.
The discussions centered on the upcoming waste analysis and characterization study in the municipality wherein said scientific endeavor aims to identify the types and quantities of generated wastes providing significant data as bases to develop effective solutions to wastes challenges.
It also focused on strengthening the implementation of solid waste management programs in the community in which households are encouraged to adhere to the practice of proper waste segregation and disposals.
Along with these shall be the provision of adequate waste disposal facilities, and consistent conduct of information and education campaigns for residents.
Mayor Hector Reuel Pascua, meantime, reiterated the pivotal role of community members, towards waste reduction, recycling, and among other environmental conservation practices.
Municipal Administrator Aprilla M. Camilot said a collaborative approach among health sectors, private environmental organizations, and the academe is needed to ensure a holistic strategy on resolving solid waste issues.
She likewise urged members of the board and barangay officials to lead with examples, earnestly promoting the campaign on environmental protection among their constituents. By Arjay Baysa
