KABUGAO, Apayao – An 11-year old Grade 5 pupil died after she allegedly drowned along a portion of the Apayao river, particularly at sitio Pasyab, barangay Nagbabalayan, here, Thursday.
Police authorities identified the lone fatality as Smiley Surqueza Paligat, 11, grade 5 pupil, and a resident of Sitio Apadi, barangay Dibagat, Kabugao, Apayao.
Initial police investigation showed that concerned barangay officials who were on board a motor boat traversing along the Apayao river saw the lifeless body of the victim on the river bank that prompted them to call for police assistance.
Responding policemen immediately rushed the victim to the Apayao District Hospital for medical treatment but was declared dead on arrival by attending physicians.
