City officials recently requested the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) to study the possibility of establishing a senior citizens one-stop shop and wellness center in the city.
Under Resolution No. 611, series of 2024, city legislators stated that the proposed senior citizens one stop shop and wellness center will serve as a centralized area for identified programs, projects, and activities of the elderly like tournaments, inter-barangay competitions, cultural presentations, digital literacy and proficiency, team building among others.
During the Senior Citizens Officials For A Day (SCOFAD) session held on October 14, 2024, The SCOFAD Council adopted the proposal of SCOFAD Councilor Elizabeth T. Espinosa that earnestly requested the CSWDO to study the possibility of establishing a senior citizens one-stop shop and wellness center in the city.
Republic Act (RA) 7876 or the Senior Citizens Center Act of the Philippines requires the establishment of senior citizens centers in every city and municipality in the country.
The council noted that not all the city’s barangays have their own senior citizens center to conduct their regular activities and programs.
It stipulated that senior citizens are highly recognized in the community for their invaluable contributions and advocacies and it is the government’s mandate to continuously sustain their efficiency in the community.
Copies of the approved resolution will be transmitted to the CSWDO for information, guidance, ready reference and further needed action. By Dexter A. See
