LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – The proposed establishment of Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) training centers in the province will be done in clusters to help in cascading to the grassroots level the available competency training that will provide the people with skills to become productive citizens of their communities.
Benguet Caretaker Congressman and Anti-Crime and Terrorism through Community Involvement and Support (ACT-CIS) Party-list Rep. Eric Go Yap said there were already initial hearings conducted on his proposed bill to establish TESDA training centers in each of the 13 municipalities over the past several weeks where TESDA officials raised some issues and concerns on the budget to sustain the operation of the said centers.
Yap, who chairs the powerful House Committee on Appropriations, stated he proposed, as a concession, to the TESDA the possible clustering of the municipalities for the limited training centers that will operate in the province.
He stipulated TESDA officials were required to study the realistic number of training centers that can be established in clusters so that the budget will be included in the agency’s budget next year.

The lawmaker agreed that these should be a minimum of 4 and a maximum of 6 clustered municipalities where the location of the training centers will now have to be determined by the agency in terms of proximity to the said areas.
According to him, people who are interested to undergo the skills training for competencies being provided by TESDA should not be compelled to go to the agency’s training centers in La Trinidad and Baguio City because it would mean additional expenses on their part but the agency should ensure their training should be availed by the interested residents because their training centers will be nearest to them.
Congressman Yap asserted that people in the remote villages of the province deserve to be provided with the appropriate services from concerned government agencies, especially when such services will be brought nearest to them to avoid unnecessary expenses and inconveniences while acquiring skills they will need to be productive citizens.
He urged residents of the province to avail of the various training being provided by the agency to acquire the appropriate skills they can use for their livelihood.
Congressman Yap underscored that the agencies should bring to the people the services they deserve and not burden people trying to look for such services from the agencies that are situated in the urban centers, thus, he wants to bring to the people of Benguet his new brand of service that is not in accordance to what they had been used to in the past.
