City officials recently requested the City Engineering Office (CEO) to facilitate the construction of waiting sheds with lighting fixtures for every jeepney terminal in the city charged against any available funds in its office not otherwise appropriated.
Under Resolution No. 566, series of 2024, Assistant City Building Official Engr. Stephen Capuyan, in his letter dated March 11, 2024 addressed to Vice Mayor Faustino A. Olowan, stated that waiting sheds are auxiliary to the road network system that might affect the road-right-of-way at the city roads which is within the jurisdiction of the CEO.
Earlier, the city council passed Resolution No. 699, series of 2023 that requested the City Buildings and Architecture Office (CBAO) for the construction of waiting sheds with lighting fixtures for every jeepney terminal in the city.
The CBAO official claimed that the aforesaid resolution did not indicate whose office budget it will be charged considering that CBAO’s budget is only for the maintenance of the city’s public buildings and does not include construction such as waiting sheds with lighting fixtures.
The council stipulated that the presence of waiting sheds with lighting fixtures in every jeepney terminal in the city will contribute in addressing the safety of passengers by deterring the commission of crimes by unscrupulous individuals.
Copies of the approved resolution will be transmitted to the CEO for information, guidance, ready reference and further needed action. By Dexter A. See
