In commemoration of the Philippine Veterans Week, the Philippine Veterans Affairs Office (PVAO) provide details on the benefits that the veterans receive.
Cherrylyn Sabling, PVAO head of Cordillera stated that the living World War II veterans receive a monthly pension amounting to 20 thousand pesos and five thousand for the other veterans and an additional 1700 pesos total disability.
Aside from the old age monthly pension, Sabling expounded the pension and non-pension benefits of the veterans including death pension, disability pension, and the total administrative disability pension.
She added that the veterans can also acquire the non-pension benefits such as burial assistance for the veterans’ legal heirs and educational assistance for the World War II legal heirs, and medical assistance for the veterans and their qualified or legal dependence.
“Pwede po niyang beneficiary, qualified dependent niya po yung asawa niya tapos yung minor kung meron silang minor children kasi ang pagkakaintindi ng karamihan ay pwede ang lahat ng mga anak, hindi po, pagka over age na po siya, hindi na siya minor ” Sabling explained.
Sabling also shared that apart from these benefits, a child of a veteran can avail a 10% preference which can be used on a civil service exam that in case he or she got 70-79 percent,he or she can apply for the 10% preference to be able to pass and this can only be availed if it was not availed by the veteran or his/ her spouse.
The office of PVAO caters and are entitled to apply for benefits are the world war II veterans, post-war veterans, Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) retirees who honorably retired and served at least 20 years in the military service, Philippine Constabulary (PC) who served six years prior to their absorption in Philippine National Police (PNP) or other government agencies in 1991, Philippine Expeditionary Forces to Korea (PEFTOK), and Philippine Civic Action Group (PHILCAG).
