TUBA, Benguet – Philex Mining Corporation, the country’s largest gold and copper producer, share the limelight with other metallic and non-metallic mining companies operating in the country as it was able to snare a number of awards during the 2018 Presidential Mineral Industry Environmental Awards held at the CAP John Hay Trade and Cultural Center in Baguio City recently.
Philex was adjudged as the champion in the Safest mineral Exploration A category while it landed first runner up in the Best Mining forest Award both in the Metallic and Mineral Exploration categories.
The annual Presidential Mineral Industry and Environmental Awards is the initiative of the Philippine Mine Safety and Environment Association (PMSEA) and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources – Mines and Geosciences Bureau (DENR-MGB).
In the field events of the Annual Mine Safety Environment Week in Baguio city, representatives of Philex also shared honors with other representatives from other mining companies in the individual events that were the subject of competitions.
Roger Apilado of Philex emerged as the champion in fire extinguishing while Elmer Dapdapig was declared as the champion in hand mocking.
Further, the Philex fire brigade settled for first runner up in the fire brigade competition while its team from the machine drilling placed second runner-up.
On the other hand, Aglubang Mining Corporation was declared the winner in the Best Mining forest Mineral Exploration category, Coral Bay Nickel Corporation won the Best mining Forest Mineral Processing Category, LafrageHolsim Aggregates, Inc. won the Best Mining forest Non-Metallic category and FCF Minerals Corporation snared the Best Mining Forest Metallic category.
In the Safest Mines Awards, Mount Labo Exploration and Development Corporation was declared the winner in the Safest mineral Exploration B category, Lafrage Holsim Aggregates, Inc. bested other companies in the Safest Quarry Operations, Riotuba Nickel Corporation won the Safest Surface Mining Operation category, Philippine Mining Services Corporation – Alcoy Plant was adjudged as the winner in the Safest Mineral Processing – Crushing Plant category, Coral Bay Nickel Corporation emerged the winner in the Safest Mineral Processing – Extraction, Oceana Gold Philippines won in the Safest mineral Processing – Concentrator, Unichamp Mineral Phils., Inc. won the Safest Mineral Processing – Calcining Plant, while the Most Improved Safety Performance award went to Cagdianao Mining Corporation and the Safest Mining Operation went to Riotuba Nickel Mining Corporation.
