PILAR, Abra – A rape suspect allegedly escaped from detention after the police officer on duty failed to lock the detention cell when he was requested by the former to fetch water for the comfort room inside the Pilar Municipal Police Station.
Abra police officials identified the escapee as Angelito Doliente Ballalo, a respondent in a rape case in the municipality.
Initial police investigation showed the escapee informed the police officer on duty that he was supposed to use the comfort room of the detention cell but there was not water that prompted the law enforcer to open the detention cell to get the pail and subsequently filled it up with water.
However, he forgot to again lock the cell and when he brought the pail of water to the inmate, he found that he was not already inside the cell.
The escapee is now the subject of a manhunt operation by operatives of the Pilar Municipal Police Station.
