BAGUIO CITY – The Cordillera Regional Development Council approved the nominees for its Chairperson and Co-Chairperson for the current administration on September 8, 2022 in Baguio City. The body also confirmed its 14 Private Sector Representatives (PSRs) to the sectoral committee and geographic seats who were elected last August 12.
The nominees from among the local chief executives are Gov. Elias C. Bulut, Jr. of the Apayao and Gov. Melchor D. Diclas of Benguet while the nominees from the private sector are Edna C. Tabanda, the private sector representative (PSR) for the indigenous peoples sector and Mary Carmelle V. Bautista, PSR for Baguio City.
RDC Vice-Chairperson and NEDA Regional Director Susan A. Sumbeling announced that the list of nominees will be submitted to the Office of the President for appointment.
Prior to the nomination, RDC Secretary and NEDA Asst. Regional Director Stephanie F. Christiansen introduced the key outputs of the Council, the organizational structure and its functions, powers, and responsibilities.
Director Christiansen emphasized that the Chair and/or Co-Chair carries the Council’s mission to “unify, integrate and coordinate all efforts toward the establishment of an autonomous region and thereby, accelerate physico-socio-cultural and economic development”. This provided the context for her underscoring the elements of commitment expected of the Council Chair and Co-Chair in the form of talent, time and treasure.
Executive Order 325 governing the reorganization of Regional Development Councils provides that when the appointed Chair is from the public sector, the Co-Chair will be from the private sector, and vice-versa.
