TABUK CITY, Kalinga – Cooperative leaders, officers and members from the region attended the opening celebration of the Regional International Year of Cooperatives held at the Kalinga Astrodome.
Hosted by the Provincial Cooperatives and Enterprise Development Office (PCEDO), this year’s theme “Cooperatives Build a Better World” underscores the enduring global impact of cooperatives, positioning them as essential solutions to today’s global challenges. It highlights their contributions to sustainable development across social, economic, and environmental dimensions.
The theme also emphasizes the unique ability of cooperatives to foster inclusive growth and strengthen community resilience, showcasing the enduring global impact of cooperatives.
In a message by Santiago Lim, Assistant Secretary of the Cooperatives Development Authority (CDA), he encouraged the leaders of cooperatives here to sustain cooperative movement by inviting more members and establish more cooperatives to achieve economic sustainability.
He also said that Tabuk City, with the assistance of the City Cooperatives and Enterprise Development Office has the potential to be the first Cooperative City in the country.
Lim addressed the participants saying “This celebration is aligned with the global cooperative movement, an opportunity to reaffirm commitment to the movement, by advocating for supportive framework, raising awareness on cooperativism, and inspiring leadership within cooperative movement”.
As presented during the event, there are 1,473 registered cooperatives in the region as of 2024; 196 are in Kalinga.
As to combined assets of all cooperatives in the whole Cordillera Region, the figure stands at PhP51.3B, with Tabuk Multipurpose Cooperative (TAMPCO) and Tabuk Farmers Multipurpose Cooperative (TAFAMULCO) joining the roster of billionaire coops in the region. By Darwin Serion
