A volunteer rescuer named John Philip Guinihid lost his life after being brought out of the tunnel at Runruno, Quezon, Nueva Vizcaya this afternoon.
Guinihid and a man named Johnny Ayudan voluntarily entered the tunnel last night to retrieve the body of Johnny’s brother, Lipihon Ayudan, one of the five small-scale miners who failed to exit the tunnel due to poisonous gas.
Johnny Ayudan was later rescued alive from inside the tunnel.
Lipihon Ayudan, Daniel Segundo, and Florencio Indopia—who entered the tunnel on the night of Monday, June 23—have yet to be recovered.
Ongoing rescue and retrieval operations are being conducted by local residents, the BFP, PNP, FCF Minerals Corp., OGPI, BLGU, MLGU, and various volunteer groups.
