Barangay Naneng and its surrounding “Gimongs” gathered in high spirits at the St. Joseph: The Husband of Mary Parish on March 19, 2025, to commemorate the 95th Patronal Fiesta.
A grand display of faith, culture, and unity among parishioners marked the celebration.
The historic church was founded in 1927 and is now celebrating its 98th year. However, as mentioned by the parish priest, Rev. Fr. Khoshi Chris Dupa-as, the Congregation of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (CICM), determined that the parish’s official foundation year should be 1930, as it was previously under Lubuagan’s authority before becoming an independent parish.
Fr. Dupa-as encouraged parishioners to fully join in the celebration and to start planning for the church’s centenary anniversary early to ensure it is a memorable event.
Representing City Mayor Darwin Estrañero, Atty. Gertrude Joy Gammonac, expressed her appreciation to the parishioners for their gracious hospitality.
She noted the residents’ kindness as a reflection of the city’s strong feeling of community.
Additionally, she conveyed Mayor Estrañero’s unwavering support not only for Barangay Naneng but also for the parish, promising support in the church’s repairs and improvements.
Furthermore, she reiterated efforts to promote the barangay as a key tourist destination.
The day was celebratory, with a lively procession, a solemn mass, and an engaging program that included songs, dances, and activities throughout the day.
The celebration showcased the deep faith and enduring traditions of the community, making it a truly unforgettable event. By Edward Joseph Gacuya
