Athletes, selected from the regional winners of CARAA 2025, now proudly represent the Cordillera for the Pambansang Palaro 2025. A total of 815 participants, including athletes, coaches, and support staff, are part of this year’s team. Of these, around 500 athletes are competing in various events, showcasing the region’s athletic talent and determination at nationals.
The Department of Education–CAR is fully supporting all of the players of the region. Each athlete and coach received a one-thousand-five-hundred pesos allowance and additional incentives, even though meals, lodging, and such are already provided. This effort reflects the region’s deep appreciation and encouragement for its representatives.
According to Regional Director Estela Cariño, the aim for this year’s games is to be in the top 10, as last year CAR was placed in the top 14 with 11 golds. Although there is a goal in mind, the welfare and performance readiness of the athletes are the top priority. Ms Cariño shared that the “main challenge is the temperature, yun talaga. Although pag nasa field by 10 to 3 wala ng game, pero ganun parin ang taas ng indexture,” she said. Additionally, aside from an athlete with a case of chickenpox and one that had to undergo surgery for their appendix, through this Ms Cariñ, during Kapihan sa Baguio on May 26, assured that the athletes are being taken care of.
As of May 30, 2025, Team CAR proudly holds 9th place overall, with 16 gold, 12 silver, and 8 bronze. This alone speaks volumes about how strong and resilient the athletes are.
With unwavering Cordilleran pride, discipline and heart, the region stands tall with Team CAR. Whatever the final tally may be, the team has already won– in spirit, strength and unity. By Meann Henderson
