BAGUIO CITY – Retired City Engineer Edgar Victorio Olpindo expressed his gratitude for the empowering leadership of the city government, particularly in the context of the sidewalk recovery, living street and complete streets projects.
He said that the initiative is not just about enhancing the city’s infrastructure but it is about creating a community that prioritizes safety, accessibility and sustainability for everyone.
The retired city official admitted that one of the most significant ways the city government has supported the said vision is by entrusting him with the autonomy to select his own team where the said decision was transformative and has positively impacted the local government’s projects.
He claimed that having the freedom to choose his team allowed them to bring together individuals who share a common passion for the said mission where each member brought unique skills and perspectives, fostering a collaborative environment where innovative ideas flourished.
According to him, the diversity did not only strengthen their approach but also ensured that they truly represented the needs of the community.
Moreover, the empowerment instilled a sense of ownership and accountability within the City Engineering Office team where each person felt valued and invested much in the success of the implemented projects, motivated them to go above and beyond their efforts.
“It has been inspiring to witness how this trust has sparked creativity and commitment, leading to more effective solutions for our complete streets initiative,” Olpindo stressed.
Further, he said that having the ability to choose his team members enhanced their communication and teamwork where they established a culture of open dialogue, where everyone felt encouraged to voice their opinions and contribute ideas. The said collative spirit was essential, especially in a project as multi-faceted complete streets, where input from various disciplines can lead to comprehensive and sustainable outcomes.
Olpindo emphasized that the aforesaid empowerment reflects the local government’s commitment to fostering leadership at all levels. By believing in their capabilities and allowing them the freedom to assemble a team that reflects their shared values, they did not just execute a project but they were able to build a legacy of their community full of engagement and innovation.
The former city engineer stipulated that the city’s empowering leadership did not only enhance their work on the complete streets project but had also inspired them to strive for excellence in serving the city and that together, they will create streets that are safe, inclusive and vibrant for all.
“Work doesn’t feel like work when you love what you do every day. Thanks to the city government of Baguio. Thank you to my ACEX family. Thank you to my Dream Team CEO for your positivity and willingness to go above and beyond,” Olpindo asserted. By Dexter A. See
