BAGUIO CITY – A retired government employee unfortunately died after he was accidentally bumped by a pick up truck that was maneuvering in the mall parking area in Luneta Hill early Thursday afternoon.
Police Col. Ruel D. Tagel, City Director of the Baguio City Police Office (BCPO), identified the fatality as Ignacio Lingbanan Nanam, Sr., 75, married, a retired government employee and a resident of Central Ambiong, La Trinidad, Benguet.
Initial police investigation showed that a pick up truck was maneuvering to park in the designated parking space in the mall when it accidentally bumped the victim who was walking at the rear end of the said vehicle.
The victim was immediately rushed by concerned individuals to the hospital for medical treatment but he was declared dead on arrival by attending physicians due to multiple head and body injuries because of the heavy impact of the said bump.
The driver of the vehicle is now under the custody of the BCPO awaiting the filing of charges of reckless imprudence resulting to homicide that is being prepared against him by the investigators.
However, witnesses refuted the police report that the victim was at the rear end of the vehicle when the incident happened as they revealed that the man was sprawled bloodied on the pavement right in front of the ill-fated vehicle.
Further, they added that the vehicle was not yet in the parking slot as it was still trying to locate available spaces when it bumped the victim, an indication that the same was moving fast at that time.
Some of them said that the pick up was not about to park yet, it was outside of any parking lane, thus, it was in a hurry to get a green spot. The pick up was turning right based on the position of the car when the witnesses saw it.
Concerned residents raised concern on the safety of individuals visiting the mall because of the latest incident that claimed the life of an innocent individual who was just walking in the parking area. HENT
