BAGUIO CITY – Public works officials announced the construction of the detour bridge in Camp 5, Tuba, Benguet will be completed on time which would mean that Kennon Road, the famous Zigzag Road, will be opened to light vehicular traffic at around 7 pm of Monday, October 3, 2016.
The newly built detour bridge which is made up of bailey panels and decks from the old Camp 5 bridge will serve as the temporary passage way of motorists while the contractor will be working on putting up the concrete pavement and other supporting structures of the old bridge which will be made permanent for the benefit of the motoring and commuting public.
DPWH-CAR officials said the conversion of the old Camp 5 bridge into a permanent one has a total project cost of more or less P47 million that will be completed by December this year after the contractor started working on it last June.
The 51-linear meter Camp 5 bridge is one of the oldest bridges along the 34-kilometer roadline which has been considered the shortest route to and from the country’s Summer Capital.
DPWH-CAR officials expressed their gratitude to the public for their patience and understanding in dealing with the prevailing situation in various parts of Kennon Road, especially the closure of the Camp 5 bridge section for at least 7 days, because it allowed the contractor and other personnel to work round the clock in the putting up of the detour bridge that will be temporarily used by motorists using the said road to and from the city.
The Camp 5 section of the road was closed to vehicular traffic at around 7 am of September 27 and was said to be opened to vehicular traffic at around 7 pm of October 3, 2016.
