Camp Aquino Tarlac City – About 200 participants from various riding communities and sectors in the province of Ilocos traversed the Ilocos major roads, from Narvacan to Vigan to Sinait and Candon, Ilocos Sur, as they joined the Ride For West Philippine (WPS), demonstrating their support over government advocacy for the West Philippine Sea on November 30, 2024.
The Ride for the West Philippine Sea is an advocacy ride and ride for a cause with the theme “One for All, All for West Philippine Sea.” It was organized by the Regional Emergency Assistance Communication Team (REACT) Region 1, 1st Civil Relations Group, (1CRG) CRSAFP, and the Provincial Government of Ilocos Sur, mobilizing various organizations and sectors of society to strengthen awareness on WPS advocacy.
The ride culminated in Ilocos Sur Polytechnic State College, Candon City, where a short program was conducted along with the presentation of the Armed Forces of the Philippines’ Communication Plan ‘Mulat’ as well as the distribution of information education campaign materials to the participants.
Regional Chief, REACT 1, Dr. Antonio Agustin, emphasized that the objective of the event was to show support to the WPS and to advocate for and strengthen our interest in the WPS.
“We are here supporting the national government initiatives for the WPS, our Armed Forces of the Philippines, and uniformed personnel as they maintain and sustain our ownership in the West Philippine Sea,” said the REACT 1 Region Chief.
He also stated that the ride will also benefit fisherfolks in Ilocos Sur.
Candon City Councilor Godofredo Abrero, who represented the 2nd District of Ilocos Sur, and the city government of Candon commended the organizers for the endeavor to raise public awareness about the West Philippine Sea as it is timely and important and for their support to soldiers deployed in the West Philippine Sea.

I also want to commend your initiative to raise funds for your designated benefactors. This is a true reflection of the Filipino-heroic spirit and caring. With your unity, you have proven that despite the challenges, our country has hope because of people like you who are willing to help and care for others,” added the city councilor.
