BAGUIO CITY – City officials recently approved the request for a fifty percent discount on the monthly ‘kwartais’ of the temporary relocated occupants of the second and third floors of the Rillera building within the city public market until a tax ordinance will be crafted for the authorized rate for the fees.
Under Ordinance No. 76, series of 2024, the grant of the 50 percent discount on the monthly ‘kwartais’ of the temporary relocated occupants of the second and third floors of the Rillera building shall take effect pursuant to the pertinent provisions of Republic Act (RA) 7160 or the Local Government Code of 1991 as amended.
Earlier the council considered a letter dated August 15, 2024 of Jessie T. Muyargas, et al., stall occupants at the Rillera building requesting a 50 percent discount on their monthly stall rate and a letter dated October 4, 2024 of Placido S. Generao, Market Supervisor 2 and Ceasar M. Emilio, Market Supervisor IV, both of the City Market Division of the City Treasury Office, recommending the reduction of the monthly stall rent be granted to give time for the affected stall owners to recover losses which they suffered during the fire incident at the Baguio City public market.
The Committee on Appropriations and Finance, Cluster B, Taxes, Fees and Other Charges, in its 3rd indorsement dated November 29, 2024, recommended approval of the 50 percent discount on the monthly ‘kwartais’ of the temporary relocated occupants of the second and third floors of the Rillera building based on the recommendation of the City Market office until a tax ordinance is crafted for the authorized rate for the fees.
The ordinance was unanimously approved by the local legislators following the recommendation of the concerned office and the council committee where the aforesaid matter was referred for study and recommendation. By Dexter A. See
