BONTOC, Mountain Province – In a bid to make all residents aware of the history and culture of the province, Governor Bonifacio Lacwasan, Jr., through the Provincial Historical Committee, turned over the provincial history book entitled “Mountain Province: Then and Now”, to the more than two hundred elementary and high schools in the province and to the 144 barangays around the province.
This was done on November 7 during the flag raising program wherein Gov. Lacwasan turned over the books to DepEd Administrative Officer Arnel Bagayao for the elementary and high schools and Board Member Alfonso Ligos, the Liga ng mga Barangay (ABC President), for the barangays.
The books will be deposited at the school libraries and barangay halls for the public to read and be made aware of the histories of the province and the municipalities.
It was emphasized by the chair of the Provincial Historical Committee that the book chronicles the provincial structure of the provincial and municipal leaderships since 1967 when the province separated as a distinct and separate province from the old Mountain Province.
It was also learned that the salient accomplishments of the past governors and mayors were included in the content of the books.
The book started with the organization of the provincial government with Atty. Alfredo “Gayagay” Lamen as the first governor up to the incumbent, Governor Bonifacio Lacwasan, Jr.
The administrations of first municipal mayors were cited including their accomplishments. The first sets of officers that included vice mayors and councilors up to the incumbents were indicated.
Governor Lacwasan, in an earlier interview, said that the book is a good source of information as to the history and cultures of the province. “The books will be good research material for students and those who are history enthusiasts in the communities,” he continued.
