TABUK CITY, Kalinga – A total of eight infrastructure projects worth P15.8 million were implemented by the city government in Barangay San Julian under the administration of Mayor Darwin Estrañero in 2021, the bulk of which were funded under the 2021 annual budget of the city.
Bulk of these projects are road improvements ranging from concreting and opening of roads that link communities, specifically the concreting of the major road along the irrigation that leads to San Julian, as well as farm-to-market roads.
According to Punong Barangay Benazeer Diasen, the developments have primarily benefited farmers, easing the transport of their products. “Haan nga kasla idi nga agkedked da, nu ibagam nga ‘i-pick-up yu man daytuy apit ku’, kasla ngay nga itantan da,” she said.
“Tattan nga mayat ti dalan mi, uray anya nga lugan, makaunegen,” she added.
Diasen said San Julian is prioritizing the improvement of their road network because good road conditions are vital to their livelihood.
“Dakkel nga banag nga ma-improve dagituy kalsada mi. Iti gamin source of income ti barangay San Julian, talaga nga farming. Isu nga isu iti pinaka-top priority mi iti barangay ti kalsada,” she said.
Aside from road improvements, the city government also funded the installation of streetlights, continuation of the construction of gymnasium, and improvement of a communal irrigation system in San Julian, all implemented in 2021.
Under its supplemental budget and development fund, the city government aims to complete another P36 million worth of road improvements in San Julian in 2022.
