CAMP DIEGO SILANG, La Union – A rookie policeman along with 58 others suspects involved in illegal drug activities and various crimes in La Union were arrested yesterday in a simultaneous operation conducted by joint police operatives together with elements of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group here.
Senior Superintendent Angelito Dumangeng, La Union police director, identified the policeman as PO1 Menard Randy Miranda, 25, a resident of Calumbaya, Bauang, La Union and also assigned at the Bauang police station.
Miranda was arrested while policemen were implementing a search warrant at the house of his companion Dexter Pascua in Barangay Central West, Bauang.
Dumangeng said the police officer was seen by operatives hiding illegal drugs at a chicken cubicle that’s why he was subjected for body search that resulted to the confiscation of three sachets of illegal drugs in his possession.
The policeman, who wears civilian clothes during his arrest, was allegedly carrying a firearm.
Pascua, on the other hand, was caught with three sachets of shabu, illegal drug paraphernalia, and assorted ammunitions.
“We will not tolerate this kind of activities of our policemen. We file the necessary charges against him such as administrative and criminal offenses,’ Dumangeng said.
Dumangeng said that the series of operation for Lambat-Sibat by the La Union police has resulted to the arrest of some 58 individuals involved in illegal drug activities, some are wanted persons with warrant of arrest and other were nabbed due to the implementation of search warrants.
“The concerted effort of the La Union police and support of the community is vital against all forms of criminality as this is a key for a peaceful and orderly province,’ Dumangeng said.
Dumangeng added that the result of Lambat-Sibat operations was already reported to Chief Supt. Ericson Velasquez, the regional director of Police Regional Office 1.
